School Supply Kits for Iraqi Children
Please join us in helping the soldiers of the 3-3 of the U.S. Army help the children of Iraq by preparing School Supply Kits. Each Kit will contain basic, badly-needed items that can make a world of difference to a child heading to school. Assembling standardized Kits ensures that each child receives the same number of the most needed items, facilitates customs clearance, and relieves volunteers and soldiers of the time-consuming and labor intensive process of sorting and allocating random donated items. Kits are popular among Iraqis, who often request them.
Assemble each Kit according to the following list. Please DO NOT include additional items, and be sure that all items are new and unused. Each Kit should contain:
- One 12-inch ruler with metric markings
- 12 new pencils with erasers
- One small pencil sharpener
- One large eraser
- One box of colored pencils (Crayons melt in the Iraqi summer heat!)
- One package of notebook paper
- One composition book
- Three folders with inside pockets (plain)
- One zippered pencil bag (plain)
- Pack only the listed supplies in a 2-gallon sized zipper seal plastic bag or you can bring your donation of supplies to the church for packing.
Please use discretion in choosing your supplies. Avoid items that are religious, depict war or conflict, or are strongly gender or age specific. Also please be sensitive to the fact that we will be sending items to children that are less exposed to television and video games, and under emotional strain.
You can drop off your donation of supplies and Kits at the church (Monday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 12 PM). Look for the box noted “Project Iraqi School Supplies for the Children” near the glass doors.
Monetary donations by check can be made payable to Central Presbyterian Church, noting on the memo line “Iraqi School Project” and mailed to the church at 70 Maple Street, Summit, NJ 07901.
