Interfaith Hospitality Network

How Interfaith Council for the Homeless (IHC) Helps
The Network offers temporary overnight shelter, meals, and support services to a maximum of 28 homeless people (single women or families only) each night; through two Hospitality Networks of churches and synagogues, including 31 host congregations and more than 40 congregations who provide support. Hosting is done on a weekly rotational basis. Intake assessments, referrals and case management are provided by our professional staff.

Housing Programs

Transitional Programs

  • Provides temporary housing for families working to get back on their feet
  • Provides up to one year in a secure, stable environment for homeless families
  • Provides case management and supportive services by our professional staff
  • Utilizes 5 apartments, either owned or leased by the Council, for this program

Supportive Housing

  • Prevents homelessness for single men and women and families affected by HIV/AIDS
  • Offers permanent housing and long-term rental assistance, utility assistance, case management and support groups
  • Advocates in the community

Permanent Housing

  • Assists people in obtaining affordable housing
  • Provides first month's or back rent, some monthly rental assistance, security deposits
  • Provides some donated furnishings

More than just Housing
Stable housing enables individuals and families to participate in other IHC programs, providing opportunities to prevent future incidents of homelessness and more toward independence and self-sufficiency.

Education to Work/Kandiland Crafts
Provides weekly classes to help adults with life skills, health issues, parenting and career development. It affords adults opportunities to complete their high school education, take computer classes and receive hands-on sales, telemarketing and product development training in Interfaith's craft project. In addition, it offers monthly enrichment activities to children, including field trips to places like Liberty Science Center, museums, movies, etc. for the whole family.

Job Placement Services
An outgrowth of the Supportive Housing program, the Job Bank assists with resumes, interviews and job placements for people in all of Interfaith's programs and individuals from the community. The Job Bank obtains job opportunities from within the corporate community and holds Job Fairs.
